... Megami Kouhosei TokyoPop Manga ...
Yukiru Sugisaki is one of my favorite artists. Although this particular title has received quite a bit of flak from critics and fans alike--I actually like the series. Granted, the plot probably does borrow entirely too much from other mecha anime--I can't help but be drawn to it though. Maybe it's the characters or it could be because of the art (fruity costumes aside...). For whatever reason, this is one of the titles that I have chosen to keep in my collection--don't ask me why, maybe Sugisaki-san has put a spell on me ^.^
Having the manga translated into English (finally!) was a godsend, because if you were just going to judge the series by the anime adaptation then you probably will not like Megami Kouhosei at all. I mean, it was ok (bad opening and ending themes+sequences though--might have been a low-budget production) but nothing spectacular. You know, one of those things you would probably watch if it was being shown on cable--but only because it's already there. The manga, thank goodness is much more engrossing. I will eternally be grateful to TokyoPop for making Megami Kouhosei (and other noteworthy titles) available to the rest of the world.
